autumn 2013, i was invited to an artist residency in morocco. having studied art history, i stumbled into it unaware and spent my time shooting 35mm film and learning about moroccan culture. i ended up being heavily inspired by the craft industry there; everything from leather tanning to raffia weaving. together with my friend polly wright, i created a performance piece entitled ‘beauty salon’ that was hand-chosen for the marrakech biennale. for this performance i performed & created costumes, and it was my first foray into artisanal work and production. my photographs from morocco were also featured in an exhibition together with the ‘world wide women’ collective at COB gallery in camden in 2015.
